Reducing
hypoxia

Participating in the Connecticut Science Expo (run by 21st skills), where we got the challenge along with other high schools to address an issue with balance in nature. Our group focused on the issue of Hypoxia in lakes and we worked on a machine that would use an impeller to take water from the bottom of a lake and spread it on the top.

For this project, I was the lead of the Engineering Team, where we physically built the prototype using materials like PVC and wood, to custom 3D printed parts. I also set up and programmed the Arduino that we used in the machine to control the impeller from our laptop, as well as being able to read statistics about the device functioning, collected through a variety of sensors. I was also involved in designing the circuitry to have a solar panel power the entire device and store energy in a lithium polymer battery. At the expo, our team won first place of all the Connecticut high schools that were involved.
